What We Do

Develop young women and girls leaders

Mhodzi is committed to nurturing and strengthening the leadership of young women and girls in all their diversities. We firmly believe that these communities along with their movements and organizations possess vast potential and valuable experience in challenging the existing oppressive systems that continue to perpetuate injustices. By harnessing this potential and ensuring that young women and girls’ rights to engage in their own development are realized, we can greatly enhance their influence as change makers working towards a just and sustainable society.
Our learning and development approach is rooted in feminist principles, which ensure that our delivery is participatory and action-oriented in secure and supportive environments. Our approach embeds power analysis and collective care and well being strategies.
Our spaces spark critical thinking, facilitate co-creation of solutions and build collective power. We equip young women and girls with tools so that they can use their agency to catalyze positive change at the personal, community and systemic levels. All these are efforts aimed at providing young womn and girls with a safe environment to test out their ideas, connect with peers and collectively strategize actions on Sexual and Reproductive Justice (SRJ) and Climate Justice.

Documentation and knowledge production

Mhodzi is dedicated to documentation and knowledge production in pursuit of advancing Sexual and Reproductive Justice and Climate Justice from an African feminist perspective. We prioritize the creation of safe and interactive spaces for deepening dialogue and discourse within our community. Through creative ways, we aim to showcase the historical and contemporary leadership of young womn and girls. Our commitment extends to the critical analysis and documentation of their work, activism and cultural contributions. Ultimately, our collective aim is to document and share their knowledge and learning, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected in the realms of SRJ and Climate Justice.

Amplify young feminist voices

We recognise that the philanthropic sector continues to perpetuate epistemic violence by overlooking the undocumented lived experiences and knowledge created by African women and girls in all their diversities. The narratives surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Rights and Climate Justice frequently neglect to highlight the diverse experiences of young African women and girls. These stories fail to convey the resilience and agency these groups demonstrate in advocating for their rights and responding to humanitarian crises.
Our aim is to amplify the voices and visibility of young women and girls. Ultimately our goal is to inform and influence policy, practice and research by sharing these narratives and empowering African women, girls, and gender diverse individuals to shape their own stories and drive positive change. We do this through:

● Oral Herstories. Storytelling is our feminist megaphone amplifying diverse voices and experiences to ignite empowerment, solidarity and drive change. Through our narratives, we cultivate understanding, inspire action and share a world where every story is heard and every voice matters.
● Enhancing their access to and proficient use of media tools, including leveraging social media platforms for increased engagement and outreach.
● Bridging the gendered digital gap and harnessing the influence of digital media to amplify their voices.
● Providing training in the Arts and Creative Expression.
